News from Chad:
Hello again! It’s been a busy time, with lots of great concerts and events on the horizon. There’s a new Kora Band album in the works (and a great show at Jimmy Mak’s in Portland this Friday!). Both the Kora Band record, and the album with Michal Vanoucek will be released in the fall… until then – here’s a few upcoming concerts and projects I’m involved with in the not-to-distant future…
Tunnel Six
2010 North American Tour
May 19th – June 5th
“the level of interplay… is remarkable” – Earshot Jazz
For nearly a year this group has been in the planning stages of this extensive tour, and it’s finally about to happen. This project is going to be one of the more artistically rewarding endeavours that I’ve ever done. We’ll be playing 14 concerts throughout Canada and the Pacific Northwest – and finishing it all off in one of Portland’s finest recording studios. I’m especially looking forward to playing again at the Banff Centre, where we formed this unique band, with members from Seattle, Portland, New York City, Toronto, and Halifax. There’ll be constant tour updates, and probably more than a few quirky antics posted online atwww.tunnelsix.com. Be sure to check out the full tour schedule there, tell your friends in various cities, and since most of you are in the Seattle area, be sure to mark your calendar for our our only Washington performance:

This band left it’s mark on Belgium earlier this year… or maybe Belgium left it’s mark on these guys – either way, this is a really exciting project featuring Belgian pianist Bram Weijters and a Seattle rhythm section that is, pound-for-pound, more frightening than just about anything else. This promises to be a great night of music, and since we’ll be going into the studio while Bram is in Seattle, for an upcoming release, you’ll want to be there on this night, so you can tell your friends. Better yet, bring your friends too!

West Coast Tour
June 22nd – 26th
I’ll be continuing my seeminginly-one-sided relationship with I-5, later in June while on tour with Ben Darwish’s new quartet. Ben’s one of the absolute best, and has been a long-time musical friend of mine for the last several years. We’ll be playing Ben’s compositions (he won an ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award). I’m looking forward to seeing some great friends along the way, and we end in San Francisco – which is always a good time! I hope to see you out at any of these shows in your area. It’ll be an exciting trip with some really great music and super great musicians! You can hear (and should purchase) Ben’s new record here.
