Catch Chris in Seattle before he leaves for NYC!
Hi friends,
As many of you have probably heard, we’re coming up on my last month as a Seattle resident here, and I want to be sure to see everyone before I head off to, well, far less greener pastures in New York! Info about various yard parties, etc. is coming soon, but for now here are some shows that I’m playing over the next couple of weeks – I’m happy to say that a pretty good cross-section of my recent musical life is represented… I have been so fortunate to play regularly with the very best musicians in the Northwest, and I look forward to many more opportunities in the future (or in other words, you’re not rid of me yet!!). Hope to see you all at some or all of these…
July 8: a great new trio that I’ve been working on with Alex Chadsey (piano) and Ben Thomas (vibes, cajon, bandoneon) is playing at Egan’s Ballard Jamhouse. We’re sharing a bill with Laura Rebelloso’s son jarocho band – Laura is a spectacular singer and guitarist, and this is her last show in Seattle before returning to Veracruz… The show starts at 9pm, and is all ages until 11.
July 10: Grupo Ashé is playing a free public concert at Redmond Derby Days, 6pm. This is the Northwest’s only timba band, and if you haven’t checked it out you must – thrilling Cuban dance music!
And then later July 10: Orchestra Zarabanda is playing at Selena’s in Wallingford – more great Cuban dance music! And you get to hear me sing coros
10pm start.
July 12: Frieze of Life is back, featuring a rare Lazarus-like appearance from Jay Roulston!! We’re playing at Cafe Racer starting at 9pm, and we’ll go through a lot of old favorites. Frieze of Life is by far the area’s most exciting and unique improvised music ensemble of the last several years, and it will be a blast to get together and play one more time.
July 13: Orchestra Zarabanda is back, at Teatro Zinzanni. One of the best dance floors in Seattle, and a very fun, classy place to hear this great band. 9pm start.
July 15: Sonando is playing our regular monthly show at Tula’s. Word on the street is that Mack is making room for dancers, so if you’re ever going to come to Tula’s this is the time… 8pm start, all ages until 10pm. The best latin jazz in the Northwest!
July 17: Andrew Boscardin’s Zubatto Syndicate is playing at Sounds Outside in Cal Anderson Park, 4pm. This a fun new band that combines modern grooves with a very interesting chamber ensemble conception.
And later July 17, my chamber piece ôvo, based on a text by Augusto de Campos, is being being performed by the Affinity Chamber Players at The Chapel at the Good Shepherd Center, 8pm.
Look forward to seeing all of you,
chris
