From Chad:
It’s been a little while since I’ve sent one of these out – but I assure you it’s not from lack of doing anything! It’s been a very busy summer, and as a result there are several exciting things happening this fall…

For the last few years, one of my favorite projects has been the Kora Band. It’s been one of the most musically rewarding experiences of my life, and I’m proud to announce our first studio album since I’ve been in the band. The studio really captured some great moments, and I think we’re all very happy with the results! Cascades will be released internationally in September on OA2 Records, and we’ll be celebrating in style with a great tour down the West Coast- I really hope you can be a part of this tour, and if you haven’t heard this band yet- you’ll have no more excuses!

THE SKY CRIES
Ever since Michal’s visit to Seattle last October I’ve been quietly been working on finishing the record we did after our 2009 Earshot Jazz Festival performance. With an all-star band of of some of the Northwest’s finest, I’m really happy with how this record of original compositions turned out. The Sky Cries will be released in October on Origin Records. The band, along with myself (tpt) and Michal (piano), is; Mark Taylor (sax); Dave Captein (bass), and Matt Jorgensen (drums). I’ll be sure to send out information on how to order when it becomes available. Michal and I will be in the process of world domination throughout the months of October and November, so stay tuned as more dates are announced. Here’s a few important ones to keep on the books:
10/24 Brussels, Belgium appearing with Michal’s band As Guests
11/12 Portland, OR Tabor Space – Portland CD Release Party
11/17 Twin Falls, ID College of Southern Idaho
11/24 Seattle, WA – Seattle CD Release Party
Upcoming concerts in Portland, Oregon
Deconstructing Americana & The Portland Sketches
Two great shows are just around the corner in Portland; the second-annual Deconstructing Americana performance (a mixture of Americana tunes with audio from speeches that define American society) and a quartet show featuring my Portland Sketches. Both of these bands are filled with great musicians, and I’m really looking forward to each of them!
Sept. 11th- Deconstructing Americana
The Camillia Lounge
featuring: Chad McCullough (tpt / audio); Dave Marriott (trombone); Andrew Oliver (keyboard); Dan Duval (guitar); Brady Millard-Kish (bass); Mark DiFlorio (drums).
Sept. 13th- The Portland Sketches
Mississippi Pizza
featuring: Chad McCullough (tpt); Dan Duval (guitar); Sam Howard (bass); Brian Wright (drums)
There are a few other things on the horizon that I’m also looking forward to:
Andrew Boscardin’s Zubatto Syndicate This unique little ensemble is really cool, and we’ll be heading into the studio to finally get everything recorded that Andrew’s been writing. The band features some of my really good friends, Byron Vannoy, Mark Taylor, Dave Marriott, Greg Sinibaldi… a whole slew of great players. And of course, the fearlessly-leadering Andrew Boscardin on guitar! If you can’t wait until the record comes out- come check this band out at the Comet Tavern on October 10th!
Another new record? Yes. In January (or maybe February).
Chad McCullough | Bram Weijters | John Bishop | Chuck Deardorf
Bram and John and I had such a great time making music together (… I think also something about Abbey Ales… but that’s hazy) when we were in Belgium last year, that we jumped at the chance to get Bram to Seattle to record at the secret Midnight Lamp studio with the not-as-secret Dave Dysart. The record sounds great, and we’re just mixing! I can now, very excitedly say: Belgium 2011. Yes.
Tunnel Six
With nearly 7,200 miles driven, many of them during the night, or through some of the flattest land in North America, we recorded an album in Portland. Look for that release to happen sometime in the next few months. We were lucky enough to mix with Portland’s Bob Stark – it sounds great!
Afrobeat Michael Jackson
Portland’s Ben Darwish is tearing it up with his new Michael Jackson project. I’ll be playing shows in Portland and Seattle this weekend (August 28th & 29th) and you’ll want to be there. It’s Michael Jackson’s birthday weekend – you don’t have anything else better to do than this!
Ireland
I’ll be doing some shows in October in Ireland with Andrew Oliver and Irish Clarinetist Matthew Berrill. I’m going back to the roots! Lots more info on that soon!
